Family Portraiture
"The secret to great people photography is being able to take regular people, who aren't used to being in front of the camera making them feel relaxed and comfortable, and posing them naturally so they look really good!"
Family portraits help remember the “times of your life” and provide you and your family lasting memories and enjoyment... for generations!
My portrait style looks easy and natural because that's the way I like my people to look but, it does require a developed skill and experience to really make people look good and just as important, to elicit the proper expression.
Too many times have I listened to unsatisfied clients of photographers who just "sat them down and snapped photos". Unfortunately, most photographers do just that, and while most are cheap, some charge ridiculous prices for it. At one time, you were almost guaranteed disappointment by gambling on a "cheap" price but, nowadays, paying a lot isn't necessarily a guaranty for quality either.
The goal of my portrait sessions (and the traditional goal of a family portrait session and really, all photography), is to create a single image worthy of enlarging to the largest print sizes and to be displayed prominently for everyone's enjoyment.
While of course, I create many more images you'll love and want to use, whatever presentation size you choose, I want to create something you will be proud to own. So, while "slide-show" portrait samples set to music on a website may look nice, they really don't represent the product you are purchasing and what I am creating for you.
I start the session by setting everyone up into a comfortable seated pose, everyone looks good in a seated. Then we'll do some variations, seated and more adventurous standing poses, to give you a variety of shots to choose from. We finish with what I call "interactive posing" by having you interact with each other to get a more candid look.
I primarily use scenic outdoor locations though, I can also do indoor locations using my studio portrait lighting set-up for additional cost.
Basic sessions are usually 20-40 minutes with approximately 2-4 set-ups, sometimes more. The best session time depends upon the specific location though for most locations, I usually recommend the late afternoon.
